DON BROCO – die britische Rock Kombo von Sharptone Records – haben am vergangenen Freitag, den 22.10.2021, ihr neues Album „Amazing Things“ veröffentlicht. Der Release ihres nun vierten Longplayers hatte sich um einige Wochen verschoben.

Bevor man sich mit einer Review des Albums und den einzelnen Songs widmet, sei gesagt, dass jedes Stück für sich so kreativ und vielschichtig komponiert wurde, sodass jeder Versuch einer geeigneten und kurzen Beschreibung einer schier unmöglichen Aufgabe gleicht.
„Gumshield“ ist der Starter und kommt mit modernen Trap-Beats daher, dicht gefolgt von einer harten Attitude und einem unverwechselbarem Flow der kompletten Band. Ein Starter, der den gewohnten und verschlafenen Hörer vielleicht im ersten Moment abschrecken dürfte, aber einen gelungenen Vorgeschmack für die kommenden Songs verspricht.
„Manchester Super Reds No.1 Fan“ baut im Vergleich zu seinem Vorgänger dagegen eine ernstere Spannung mit einem dunkleren Charakter auf. Doch dann explodiert dem Hörer der Song in der Hand und fliegt einem regelrecht um die Ohren. Auch der eingefleischte DON BROCO Fan kommt nur mit genauem Hören mit und muss sich den Song mehrmals reinziehen, um wirklich alle Nuancen zu begreifen.

„Swimwear Season“ ist etwas laid-back gehalten und erinnert zunächst an »Gorillaz«. Im weiteren Verlauf hebt sich die Emotionalität des Songs mit wirklich intensiven Harmonien im Refrain. Die Verse lässt diese Energie nicht fallen und klingt rockig aggressiv. Dieses Stück lebt von seiner Bipolarität zwischen seinen Refrains und Verses.
„Endorphins“ überrascht mit einem Techno-ähnlichen Stampfen, überzeugt mit fetten Gitarren-Riffs und lässt skeptische Hörer direkt verstummen. Der sanfte Stimmeinsatz im Refrain und in den Build-Ups passt sich treffend der atmosphärischen Stimmung des Songs an, bis ein finaler Breakdown das Ende eines überragenden Tracks besiegelt.
„One True Prince“, der wohl bekannteste Song der Kombo, ist als Single-Auskopplung total durch die Decke gegangen. Vielleicht liegt das an dem Gefühl, welches in seiner Tonalität vermittelt wird – vergleichbar mit Gefühlen, wie man sie nur bei »Deftones« kennt.

„Anaheim“ schenkt uns eine kleine Genießer-Pause. Dieser Song klingt sehr poppig und ein flächiger Bass, der sich über den gesamten Raum verteilt, massiert dem Hörer die Ohren. Verspielte Gitarren-Melodien schmücken den Hintergrund, setzen die passenden Akzente und verleihen dem ruhigen Song die musikalische Ausgewogenheit. Ein episches Instrumental zum Ende erinnert an »Being As An Ocean« und der emotionale Gesang – beflügelt von der restlichen Band – treiben einem die Gänsehaut in den Nacken. Der heimliche Favorit der Platte!
„Uber“, liefert den nötigen „swag“: Rappige Gesangseinlagen, fette Gitarren, kerzengerade Riffs, elektronische Beats und safte Drums komplettieren Song. Im Vergleich zu seinem Vorgänger erleben wir hier einen absoluten Richtungswechsel. Der prägendste Einfluss ist der Nu Metal, während zarte Klaviertöne im Hintergrund die Melodien des Tracks tragen.

„How Are You Done with Existing?“ ist kurzgesagt einfach nur fett und für den jeden Fan von Producing oder Sound-Engineering ein absolutes Muss. Der Mix in diesem Stück ist wirklich besonders herauszuheben. Die erzeugte Spannung wird gelöst durch die Drums im Mittelpart und einem fetzigen Gitarrensolo, ehe alle Stränge in einem epischen Finale zusammen gebündelt werden.
„Bruce Willis“ lässt sich mit einem Wort zusammenfassen: Skurril! Bei „Bruce Willis“ ist der Name Programm, ein brachialer und unterhaltsamer Track, welcher vor allem bei Live-Shows gut vorstellbar ist.
„Revenge Body“ erinnert an die aktuellsten Jahre von »Bring Me The Horizon« und dabei kreativer und verspielter daherkommt. Die eigene Handschrift von DON BROCO vermisst man dabei nicht. Dieser Song ist vermutlich der Radiotauglichste des Albums. Und die beiden letzten Songs „Bad 4 Ur Health“ und „Easter Sunday“ schließen sich diesem Vorgänger an. Leider vermisst man im Kontrast zu den übrigen Tracks der Platte die musikalischen Highlights zum Abschluss. Ein kleiner Dämpfer auf einem insgesamt sehr gutem Album und Jammern auf hohem Niveau.

Fazit:
Grundsätzlich macht das Album richtig viel Spaß beim Hören! Gefühlt tausende Einflüsse und musikalische Details schweben über jedem einzelnen Song. Dazu kommen wirklich interessante Themen und unterhaltsame Lyrics. Die abwechslungsreichen Songstrukturen, sowie fette Gitarren-Sounds und Drums prägen das Gesamtbild der Musik, sodass ein Vergleich mit »System Of A Down« oder mit »Bring Me The Horizon« nicht unmöglich erscheint. „Amazing Things“ bietet dem Hörer so Vieles: emotionale Achterbahnfahrten, moderne Breakdowns, klangvolle Rockhymnen und Ohrwurm-Refrains. DON BROCO beweist mit dieser LP, dass sie eine der talentiertesten Bands der Neuzeit im Rock-Genre sind – ohne sich mit diesem Statement weit aus dem Fenster lehnen zu müssen. Dennoch geht dem Album auf der Zielgeraden im Vergleich zu dem furiosen Rest etwas die Luft aus, was natürlich nicht bedeutet, dass das Teil nicht in Dauerschleife funktioniert.
